Again and again, we receive questions from owners and tenants who, under the impression of press releases and repeatedly incoming offers from the various meter reading companies, are concerned about the deadlines for the installation of metering technology for heating and hot water.
Due to the uncertainties in the development of energy supply costs, tenants are also pressing their landlords for cyclical consumption information. We therefore summarise the essential state of affairs according to the current HKVO as of 12.2021:
01.12.2021
After 1.12.2021, only remote-readable metering technology may be installed in new buildings.
01.01.2022
From 1.1.2022, residents must receive monthly consumption information if the property is remotely readable.
01.12.2022
From 1.12.2022, new installations must be fitted with remotely readable metering technology that is interoperable and smart meter gateway compatible.
31.12.2026
Non-readable metering technology already installed must be retrofitted or replaced by 31 December 2026. It must be remotely readable, interoperable and smart meter gateway compatible.
31.12.2031
Remotely readable metering technology installed by 1.12.2022 must be interoperable and Smart Meter Gateway compatible after 31.12.2031.
