Leipzig stands for many things, a long history with much preserved substance, the present with potential for further upswing and forecasts for a further growing future. There is a coexistence of nature, people and industry. As of 2010, Leipzig was one of the fastest growing cities in Germany, experiencing an annual increase of around 10,000 people up to and including 2017, corresponding to annual growth rates of over 2 per cent. With the highest German growth rate in 2014 to 2017 (6.9% more inhabitants each year), Leipzig became the eighth largest major city in Germany in 2018. According to forecasts, Leipzig will remain Germany's fastest-growing city in percentage terms in the coming years until 2035.

Südvorstadt

Südvorstadt borders the city centre to the south, unfolding in full size on the front section of Karl- Liebknecht-Straße - affectionately known as "Karli" in Leipzig vernacular - and spreading out to the right and left. Südvorstadt is a coveted district of Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau buildings and perhaps one of the liveliest, most colourful and relaxed areas the city has to offer. Leipzig's Südvorstadt is a colourful mix: here the doctor lives next to the housewife, the craftsman next to the architect and the family next to the single person. The more than 6,000 students enrolled at the University of Technology, Science and Culture also shape the population.

In addition to the distinctive pub scene, the urban also combines with nature: the Fockeberg in the west of Südvorstadt offers an excellent view of the city, the racecourse and the Clara Zetkin Park, and is an inviting place for picnics. Leipzig's second-highest elevation is surrounded by the Auenwald forest with its diverse flora and fauna.

Kantstr.

Kantstr. is a quiet side street with excellent infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists and cars. It stretches from Fockeberg via Brandvorwerkstr., August- Bebel-Str. and Karl-Liebknecht-Str. further southeast and ends at the site of the former Leipzig abattoir (now the premises of Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR)).

The building

The building contains a total of 16 units. It was built between 1906 and 1908 in a restrained Art Nouveau style. The core renovation of the old building substance, the conversion of the attic, the addition of balconies and the installation of a lift were carried out in 1998/99.
